Made to measure

Custom Furniture, Made to Measure

Custom furniture solves what standard sizes cannot: the alcove that is 8 cm too narrow for any sofa, the dining room that needs a table for ten, the bedroom where the bed must sit beneath a window.

We design and produce made-to-measure furniture in timber, stone, metal, leather and fabric — individual pieces or complete sets — each drawn to the room it will live in.

When custom furniture makes sense

Custom furniture is worth it when proportion matters: when a piece must fit a specific space, match other elements of the room, or serve a use no standard product anticipates. It is also worth it when you want a piece to last — made from materials you have chosen, in a form that will not date with next season’s catalogue.

If you are weighing the options, our comparison of custom and ready-made furniture sets out the trade-offs honestly.

How a piece is made to measure

We begin with your room: dimensions, photographs, the pieces around it and how it will be used. We then draw the piece — plan, elevation and key details — and develop materials and finishes with samples before anything is produced.

Once drawings and finishes are approved, the piece moves into production with our specialist manufacturing partners and is delivered according to your project’s requirements.

What to prepare before commissioning

The most useful things to share are a floor plan with dimensions, photographs of the room from its corners, and a note of what the piece must do — how many people it seats, what it stores, what it sits next to. Inspiration images help, and so do images of things you dislike.

It also helps to decide early which qualities matter most. A table can be designed to be as thin as possible, as durable as possible or as extendable as possible, but rarely all three at once. Knowing your priorities lets us make the right trade-offs on your behalf.

Questions

How much does custom furniture cost?

Cost depends on size, materials, construction and finish. We share an estimate once we understand the piece. Our guide to custom furniture cost explains what drives price.

How long does custom furniture take?

Design, sampling, production and delivery each take time, and the total depends on the piece and destination. See how long custom furniture takes.

Can you copy a piece I have seen elsewhere?

We do not reproduce other designers’ protected designs. We are happy to use a reference as a starting point for an original piece that suits your space.

Can I order a single piece?

Yes. Many clients begin with one piece — often a dining table or a bed — before extending to other rooms.

Can custom furniture be shipped internationally?

Yes. Pieces are packed for their journey and freight is coordinated according to your project’s destination and requirements. Large pieces can be designed in sections where access is limited.
