Bespoke Furniture Commissions
Where custom furniture adapts a known form to your room, a bespoke commission begins with a blank page. It is a piece designed from first sketch for one home and one owner — a table shaped around a view, a bed that becomes a wall, a cabinet made for a single collection.
Walnut Space leads bespoke commissions from concept to delivery, developing the design with you and producing it with specialist makers.

How a commission unfolds
A commission starts with a conversation about the room, the use and the feeling you want the piece to create. We develop sketches and references, then refine form, proportion and material through drawings, samples and — where useful — 3D visualisations.
When the design is agreed, detailed production drawings are prepared and the piece is made by specialist partners. Our guide to the bespoke furniture process explains each stage.
Pieces that belong to the architecture
Many bespoke commissions blur the line between furniture and architecture: a curved timber wall that separates living from dining, a headboard that extends into bedside tables, a display cabinet that fills a wall. Designed with the room, they give a home its character.
Starting points
A commission can begin almost anywhere: a sketch on a napkin, a photograph of a building, a family heirloom that needs a companion, a wall that is simply the wrong shape for anything that exists. We gather these starting points, add the constraints of the room, and develop options that respond to both.
Working with specialist makers
Bespoke pieces often require particular skills — steam-bent timber, large-format stone, fine metalwork, hand upholstery. We match each commission with specialist manufacturing partners suited to it, and review progress where a piece is complex or unusual. Material choices are explained in our material library.
Ownership of the design
A bespoke piece is designed for your home, and we treat each commission as individual. We are happy to discuss how a design may or may not be reused, and we document the final specification so that the piece can be cared for, repaired or complemented in the future.

Questions
What is the difference between bespoke and custom furniture?
Custom furniture adapts a known design to your dimensions and materials. Bespoke furniture is designed from the beginning for one owner and one space. See custom furniture.
Will I see the design before it is made?
Yes. You approve drawings, materials and finishes — and, where useful, 3D visualisations — before production begins.
Can you work with my interior designer?
Yes. We often develop bespoke pieces within another designer’s scheme.
Can a bespoke piece be made in a set or pair?
Yes. Pairs of lounge chairs, sets of dining chairs or matching bedside tables can all be commissioned together, with materials selected so that the pieces match.
